At Home Euthanasia For Dogs & Cats

Saying goodbye to your beloved pet in the comfort of their home or in their favourite place ensures there is minimal fear or stress when they are most fragile. We can help with guidance and support in this challenging moment. We will respect your wishes and allow you the time you need to say farewell.

What is pet euthanasia?

The term “euthanasia” has a Greek origin. “Eu” means good and “Thanatos” means death (good-death). In other words, pet euthanasia is kindly or humanely helping a pet pass away without pain or stress. In dogs and cats, euthanasia may be performed in order to prevent or stop suffering following the diagnosis of an incurable disease or due to old age. If you choose a mobile pet euthanasia, a veterinarian will come to you and you won’t need to take your animal to the clinic in this time of stress.

Why choose pet euthanasia at home?

We know euthanasia is one of the most difficult decisions you will have to make for your pet. However, when the time is right, this is also one of the kindest things you can do for them. Choosing an at home pet euthanasia will ensure the last moments of your pet’s life and your last memories of your pet are stress-free. At Horizon Palliative Vets we ensure a personalised service that will take into account you and your pet’s individual needs. Dr Ana and Dr Kaori are locally based in Adelaide and will work closely with your regular veterinarian so they are aware of any relevant medical information prior to your appointment. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this further or have any questions prior to making a booking.

Our at-home pet euthanasia services include:

  • Discussion about you and your family’s thoughts, wishes and concerns about the at-home euthanasia appointment.

  • Sedation: This is an injection under the skin so they can relax and be pain-free and stress-free during those final moments. They can drift off to sleep in your arms if you wish, or be laying in their favourite spot.

  • IV catheter placement so a euthanasia solution can be given.

  • Euthanasia injection.

  • We allow plenty of time for each appointment. There is no rush. We will work at a pace that feels right to you.

  • Team approach: Dr Kaori and Dr Ana will go together, or be accompanied by an experienced veterinary nurse.

  • Transportation to Eden Hills crematorium if required at no extra charge.

  • Courtesy report to your regular veterinarian/vet specialists following our visit.
